St. Eithne's opened in 1998 with 7 class groups and 8 teachers. Although our oldest children were Primary 4 we started out with a Primary 4 football club.

Football has always been high on our playground agenda and we have always allowed the children to play football on allocated areas on the large playground at break time and lunchtime. .

It wasn't until 2000/2001 when the oldest children were in Primary 6 that we had our first matches. Most of these were friendly matches to give the children a chance to experience competition before they entered the league the following year. The very first match was a gaelic match against Pennyburn P.S. and this was a great occasion.

In 2001/2002 we entered the Small schools league. . At this time we had two small Primary 7 classes and one P.6 class. Mr Meehan and the children did a great job winning some, losing some and getting a couple of draws in their first venture into inter-school soccer competitions.

St.Eithne’s So Close!
St. Eithne’s were so close to winning the Derry and District Schools’ 5-Aside Cup last Friday but sadly it ended in a slight disappointment.
The team battled through the league stage of the competition and needed to win their last match to qualify for the semi finals. Amazingly, they lost to a battling Model team which then sent St Eithne’s into a nail-biting playoff against Rosemount PS. They eventually reached final spot and were against Ebrington P.S. The match went into Golden Goal extra time and Ebrington got a disputed penalty and the dream died.

Front Row: Paul, Jordan, Ryan, Damien, Shaun & Quentin.

This team made a fair effort in the league this year. However, there were quite a lot of Primary 6 boys in the team and Mr Feeney was pinning our hopes on developing them for a better run out next year.
