My Face

My Face             By Danielle P. 5

My face is very special.

It looks different from everyone elses.

My face makes me who I am.

My face is nice and round and I have wide brown eyes.

I have a short broad nose and it is broken.

I have pink sparkling lips.

I have nice straight brown hair and I like it.

My face is tan and soft.

When I am sad my eyes get all watery and I cry.

When I am happy I smile.

I am quite happy with my face.

You see it makes me who I am.

News Report

Thankfully there were no robberies at St. Eithne's. As parents know we have a great alarm system and a very secure school nowadays. However, Michael has let his imagination roam freely with this story of a break-in.

NEWS REPORT.

By local reporter Michael B. of the Derry News

Rotten Robbers Target Local School!

Children at St. Eithne’s Primary School got a terrible shock when they arrived for school on Monday morning. We interviewed the principal, Mr. Cosgrove about vandals breaking into the school and destroying it.

He is pulling his hair out about the whole affair. said, “ I don’t know who did this, but if I ever catch them I’ll make them suffer…” The members of staff were also angry that such an atrocity could happen.

What the thieves did was wreck the office, destroy the library, smash up the computer room, crash the assembly hall, burn the classrooms and did something unspeakable to the toilets (yuck!). Oh and they stole a lot of valuable items. One of the thieves was seen! He was male, about 1.8m. blonde, green eyes has a three centimetre long nose, wearing long hair with a pony tail, jeans and a denim jacket. He is dangerous and supposed to be armed. Officers are being advised to use extreme caution when apprehending the suspects. As yet no significant arrests have been made for this break-in. Police are searching everywhere for the criminal and his gang.

The classrooms were dabbed with unintelligible graffiti and some are unusable. There are no known witnesses of this crime, so far but perhaps forensics could come up with the identity of the culprits by matching handwriting styles to that of known yobs in the area. One thing is certain the guilty persons could not have come from St. Eithne’s with such horrendous handwriting and howlers for spelling.  We believe that the vandals’ apprehension should be made top priority by our local police force.

The Workhouse

The children of Primary 7 visited the workhouse in Derry. The experience was absolutely excellent. Congratulations to those actors and the staff of the workhouse for putting on such a realistic show. Niamh wrote this little story after her visit.

Diary Of A Child in the Workhouse

By Niamh (P.7)

Monday 4th December 1848

Finally we got to the Workhouse After a three walk in the freezing cold. My father had to beg the master to let us stay. The master finally said yes. He gave us a room and some cheap old clothes. So we put the clothes on and then the master took us to our dormitories. Afterwards we went for supper and then I went to bed.

Tuesday 5th December 1848

We got up about 6 O’ Clock in the morning and got washed and dressed. Then we went and got breakfast we got porridge with buttermilk. The Porridge was disgusting. It was like a lump of rubber. I’m sure it would have bounced if I dropped it. After breakfast I had to go to School. We did some handwriting, sewing and maths. I like sewing the best but my fingers began to get quite sore right at their very tops. After School I had to work in the nursery. I just love the nursery because I love seeing all the little babies smiling and giggling. After the nursery I went to see my mummy. I miss her. We are not allowed to be together in this horrible place. Later  I went for tea. All we got was some watery gruel stuff.

We were allowed out for in the courtyard after tea. It was a long time until supper and my tummy was sore with the old crust of bread they gave us..

Wednesday 6th December 1848

Got up about 6:30 today got washed and got breakfast got the usual I think my milk tasted off. Once again we started the same routine.  I went to school. I had to sew frocks. I cannot stop thinking about my meals even though they taste horrible. At least I forget when I play with my friends.

Mobile Phones

This year mobile phones became a controversial focus of attention. They are banned at St. Eithne's but if children need to they can ring home using the school phone. We protect the children from phone bullying which opened the debate amongst the Primary sevens. Oisin's argument was most eloquent.

Mobile Phones are a Great Invention     By Oisin K. (P.7)

I strongly believe that mobile phones are a great invention. No one could live without a mobile. I have never seen a greater invention in the last ten years. Everyone should have one if you don’t you are mad so get one now!

First of all I think mobile phones are a great in case of emergencies. Not so long ago people had to run to the nearest phone box and sometimes the phone boxes were vandalised or broken. Well then, you are in big trouble! Now people have mobile phones and can save precious time. Imagine if you are old and you have a heart attack and you have a mobile phone you could save your life.

Secondly mobiles are extremely convenient because they are compact and they fit in most pockets. They are cordless and some people have them because they are a fashion accessory, lightweight and handy. It is good to keep up with technology if you don’t you get left behind.

Last of all mobiles are a great comfort to all you mums and dads because if you are away somewhere and you have a mobile all you have to do is text them. Of course it is very comforting for us children as well.

If you don’t have a mobile you are out of style by years.
