Our Logo

Logo Designers.

Two children came up with very good logo ideas. These were combined to make the logo we have today.

Christopher (Now at St. Columb's)
Anna (Now at Thornhill)

This image was produced on computer by Jimmy Laverty. (Many thanks Jimmy)
The Vision statement "Today's Children, Tomorrow's Future" was added this year 2006/07 as we revisited and re-evaluated our mission for St. Eithne's.

The main features of the logo and what they mean.

The logo features a celtic cross with an inset of water on fire.

The significance of the cross.

The celtic cross is significant because Eithne was said to have a royal lineage. Her famous son Columcille was born on a large rock called the "Leac na Cumba" (the flagstone of loneliness), which has always been regarded as having the miraculous power of easing the lonely effects of homesickness.  The shape of a cross could be seen where the baby Colum Cille had lain.

The significance of fire and water.

Although the name Eithne means "Little Fire" she is known to protect from death by Fire, death by drowning and death without a priest.. Eithne lived in Gartan (Donegal). A special white clay can be found there which is associated with St. Eithne. This clay is kept in homes by many family throughout Ireland to prevent fire or untimely death.  The clay  can only be dug by one of the natives of Gartan, a descendant of one of Eithne's entourage at the time of the birth of Colum Cille.
