The Characters

Who are the main characters in the story? What are they like?

The main characters in this story are the boy, the Grand High Witch and the Grandma. The boy is very young. He lives with his grandma and his mouse. His grandma is old and clever. She knows about the grand high witch who is a witch disguised as a lovely woman.

The Story

What happens in the story?

The story is about a young boy who’s grandma knows about the Grand High Witch who is making a plan to make a sweet shop. But be aware of her sweets. When children eat them they turn into micwe. The boy gets turned into a mouse but he and grandma have a plan to get the potion in the sweets and feed it to the witches.

Which parts did you like and why? Do you have a favourite part of the book?

My Favourite part in this book is when the greedy boy Bruno gets tricked by the sweets and turned into a mouse. During this smoke comes out of his ears.

Which parts didn’t you like and why? Were there parts of the book that you thought could’ve been changed to make the book better?

I didn’t like the end because I would have liked the boy to turn human again but he didn’t. This is what I would change.

How did the story make you feel? Were there funny or scary bits?

The story made me scared because the witches were lovely with masks on, but when they took them off they were really horrid.

What did the story make you think about? Did you learn anything from the story?

I learned from the story that not everything is quite as it seems and you can’t trust strangers.

Would you recommend the book to a friend? Why? If you didn’t like the book can you think why? Who would like the book?

I would recommend this book to a friend because I would give it a !0/10 plus my friend would be really spooked.

Title: The Guard Dog

Author: Dick-King Smith

The Characters

Who are the maun characters in the story? What are they like?

The main character is the dog. The dog is very sniffy. He is a little mongrel with a grand ambition – to be a guard dog.

The Story

What happens in the story?

There are 6 dogs in the petshop window. Five posh puppies and a scruffy mongrel. Everyone likes the scruffy dog better. The dog’s dream is to become a guard dog. He has hard times but he makes it in the end.

Which parts did you like and why? Do you have a favourite part of the book?

When the people look in the window at the dogs they all like the little scruffy dog. But he doesn’t think they look very kind. He ha a very loud earsplitting bark which is very funny.

Which parts didn’t you like and why? Were there parts of the book that you thought could’ve been changed to make the book better?

The other dogs were very cruel to the little dog. They were always talking about him and I think they should have been nicer to him.

How did the story make you feel? Were there funny or scary bits?

The story made me feel I was glad I’m not a dog. A little bit sad but it had a very happy ending.

What did the story make you think about? Did you learn anything from the story?

It made me think about others and try to do my best to be kind.

Would you recommend the book to a friend? Why? If you didn’t like the book can you think why? Who would like the book?

Yes because every person or animal is different and has the right to be different. Someone who likes scruffy dogs.

Primary 3 Writing.

Frogs.
Frogs are a living animal. All poisonous frogs are bright. Some frogs are not too nice. They are nice, scary, smelly and chubby. They usually use their back legs to jump. All frogs have long back legs to help them jump. Frogs croak. The female frog is bigger than the male frog. When you see a red-eyed tree frog you can almost see the suction cups. A frog has bulging eyes. A blue eyed tree frog is very small. Most frogs are a little chubby. Most frogs are slimy. Not many frogs in Derry are not too dark. They have webbed feet to help them swim. They have moist skin that's why they can stay on land. Frogs have 8 toes. Frogs live in all continents except Antarctica. No matter what a frogs home is near water.

Frogs even live on a beach. Some frogs actually live in the forest. There are a lot of frogs that live in my garden. Lots of frog spawn live in eggs with jelly around them to protect them. Frogs enjoy sitting on lily pads. A frog's hobby is catching their own food. A frog loves to eat insects. Frogs also love playing catch the bug. Frogs like to swim as well. As a tadpole grows its tail shrinks and its legs grow. But before that happens the tadpole has gills to help it breathe. The frog is amphibian.

Priests.
A priest is a holy man. Priests wear white when someone gets baptised.

Priests wear cinctures which are the ropes which reminds him of the promises he makes. Then there is the stole and that reminds him that he is a priest. After that he puts on his chasuble and it reminds him that God lives with us. Priests wear four coloured vestments which are green, red, purple and white. The priest wears a sutan at funerals and baptisms. When people are sick the priest visits them at home or at the hospital. If people don't know to say their prayers he teaches them to. Sometimes the priest tells jokes to make people feel better.

Sometimes when people move house he blesses it. When the priest isn't busy he sometimes does some shopping, watching football, talking and anoints people. The priest uses special oils. He also uses some bread which is the body of Jesus. The priest has some ashes which he puts on people's heads on Ash Wednesday. The priest has a crucifix which everyone stares at in mass. He also has wine and that is the body of Jesus. The priest is a holy thoughtful man.
